]]>......UPDATE....... Segway Tour Opening Update OUR viewpoint. If you could share or comment, it would be much appreciated. Other Segway tours operators have started to open BUT we are not yet! As much as we rely on the summer income, We need to take into consideration and concerns of the people in the local area, as the “R” rate in this area is still at 1 We don’t want to encourage people to come from long distances from other areas & add to the problem (our activity is very popular in the summer) Please understand this is a very difficult time for us and other businesses in our sector, but we think it’s the right thing to do and we want to stand with them!, also we rely on the local people in the this area throughout the winter and the quieter months. I Hope everybody understands and would agree we are doing the right thing? Lets see were the “R” is in a months time.

They are a popular form of transport in many cities around the world, but it is illegal to use them on public roads and pavements in the UK. The consultation covers a series of areas in relation to the safe use of e-scooters, including a minimum age for riders, speed limits, licensing, insurance and helmets. Other topics include minimum design standards, whether they should be allowed in cycle lanes, and what powers local authorities should have to manage e-scooter hire firms. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said the UK is “on the cusp of a transport revolution” as emerging technologies are “ripping up the rulebook”. |
E-scooters will initially be trialled in four Future Transport Zones. They are: Portsmouth and Southampton; the West of England Combined Authority (WECA); Derby and Nottingham; and the West Midlands. Local authorities in the areas will contract firms to provide e-scooters available for hire on the streets. The Government needs to amend legislation before the pilot schemes can begin, meaning it will be several months until e-scooters are allowed on UK roads. Trials of various types of transport innovation in the Future Transport Zones will be supported with £90 million of Government funding. Medical supplies from clinics on the Isle of Wight will be carried to hospitals on the mainland by drones, in a pilot scheme which will save time compared with transporting items on ferries and roads. WECA will test self-driving cars to move people between Bristol airport, the northern suburbs of Bristol and central Bath. The Government will also consult on how to test emerging technology in bus, taxi and private hire vehicle services to ease journey planning and payment. This includes making it easier for buses to operate on-demand and enable people to book journeys across multiple modes of transport in a single transaction. |

The potential for pop culture references here is vast. Let's start with what Segway itself says about its new S-Pod egg-shaped seated scooter. The company best known for giving tourists the chance to see new cities without that pesky walking thing says that the S-Pod was inspired by the gyrospheres in the new Jurassic World movies, have we learned nothing from Wall-E?
But to bring this all back to the real world, the newest self-balancing vehicle from Segway-Ninebot (Ninebot is a Chinese company that bought Segway in 2015) is basically a sit-down version of the famous Segway scooter and uses the same gyroscopic self-balancing technology that the stand-up models use. Able to move at speeds up to 24 mph The company maintains that the S-Pod spins and rotates smoothly for directional changes and the rider does not need to physically lean forward and back to accelerate or slow down. As the ‘brake’ is placed by the shift of the center of gravity, it ‘eliminates the possibility of the S-Pod tipping over in any situation’ the company said. It’s not likely to be available until the very end of 2020 – if not 2021 – and Segway hasn’t made any mention of what it’s likely to cost. ‘We are changing the way people move from place to place,’ said Luke Gao, the CEO of Segway-Ninebot. We are this thinking this would be awesome for disabled people to enjoy our segway tours too Watch this space. |
